What Education Pro Gets You
Education Pro is basically regular Pro with some school-focused stuff layered on. The parts that matter:

- Advanced models, the higher-tier ones, not the free default
- Learn Mode
- Perplexity Computer
- File and image upload
- Education nudges and prompts baked in
Nothing in there is exclusive to students except the education tips. The draw is the price, not secret features.

How to Verify

- Hit verify student status. SheerID pops up.
- Confirm your school email, or upload a student ID / enrollment letter / transcript if your email doesn’t qualify.
- Wait. Email is usually same day. Docs take longer.
Once approved, the $10 price applies to your account.
Don’t Subscribe Through the App Store First
This is the part people mess up.
If you already pay for Pro through Apple’s App Store, the student discount won’t stack onto it. App Store subs and the education pricing run on separate billing — you can’t just apply SheerID to an existing in-app subscription.
So subscribe on the web first, lock in the $10 rate, then sign in to the app with the same account if you want to use it there. Going the other way around is a pain to undo.
Already stuck on an App Store sub? You basically have to let it expire or cancel, then re-subscribe through the web to get the student price. Annoying but that’s how it works.
Worth It?
Depends what you do with it.
Good fit if you:
- Pull a lot of academic papers and need them summarized
- Do research and want the multi-step Pro Search
- Upload PDFs, datasets, images regularly
- Want the better models, not the free default
Not worth it if you:
- Just ask it random questions now and then
- Only need quick lookups — free does that
- Already get Pro through your school’s campus license (check that first; free beats $10)
For research-heavy students — grad students, anyone writing a thesis, people reading 30-page papers weekly — $10 is a pretty good deal vs $20. For everyone else, meh.
Alternatives
If $10 is still too much or your school isn’t recognized:
- Check whether your university hands out Pro seats. Some schools have campus licenses.
- The free tier isn’t bad for light use.
